Gene Kinoshita, OAA, FRAIC

Gene Kinoshita is renowned throughout North America for his contributions to 20th-century architecture. Throughout a career spanning more than four decades, he has held roles as design principal and design advocate while leading his own firm, Moffat Kinoshita Architects, which merged with Cannon Design. His work has been honored with more than 55 international, national, and regional awards, for such clients as the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Windsor, McMaster University, Whitby Mental Health Centre, and University of Guelph. An invited guest speaker at numerous conferences, he has served as design juror throughout North America. He is a fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, past president of the Royal Academy of Arts and Greater Toronto Arts Foundation, and recipient of the da Vinci Medal for lifetime contribution and achievement in architecture.

George Z. Nikolajevich, FAIA

Exhibiting a remarkable balance between restraint and expression, Nikolajevich has created an impressive body of work showcased in a monograph published by Balcony Press. With an architectural background rooted in Europe, his buildings reveal a quiet sculptural quality that impresses with an economy of means. Demonstrating a humanist’s touch with simple materials, Nikolajevich’s work in education and healthcare combines a midwestern sensibility with a flair for sophisticated design. Nikolajevich’s critical insight is sought by educators, healthcare practitioners, government officials, and business leaders alike. His expertise in persuading clients to forsake the familiar and his ability to surpass expectations, has resulted in two decades of award-winning projects recognized by the AIA, Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture, Illuminating Engineering Society, and American School & University. In addition to work published in Healthcare Design, Iowa Architect, Architectural Record, Contract Design, Florida Architect, and Progressive Architecture, Nikolajevich has served on more than a dozen design juries and is a frequent lecturer and visiting professor.

W. Kenneth Wiseman, AIA, MRAIC

President, Professional Services

As President of Professional Services, Mr. Wiseman is responsible for initiatives governing the recruitment and development of the best design talent and technical expertise to perpetuate Cannon Design’s distinction in design, innovation, and outstanding project delivery. During his tenure with the firm, Mr. Wiseman has served as practice leader for Cannon Design’s Southeast Region and a leading proponent of the firm’s SFMO® methodology, providing leadership as Design Principal on projects across North America. As a President of Cannon Design, Mr. Wiseman is a member of the Board of Directors, and also represents the firm at the AIA Large Firm Roundtable.

Mr. Wiseman is perhaps best-known as one of the country’s premier designers of facilities for sports and recreation and his work has been consistently honored by numerous awards, publications, and journals. His United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, was declared the “Foremost Sports Facility of the Year” by the International Sports Summit and one of his most recent projects, the Texas Christian University Student Recreation Center, has been honored with four awards for design excellence, including recognition by the International Olympic Committee and International Association for Sports and Leisure Activities.

Mehrdad Yazdani

For most of his career, Mehrdad Yazdani has practiced at the intersection of the large office and the small studio. Named by Progressive Architecture magazine as one of the world’s top emerging designers, Yazdani has succeeded in bringing a design sensibility characteristic of boutique firms to a broad portfolio of significant civic buildings. Yazdani has maintained a consistent and clear design vision for public and institutional projects, developing a reputation for design excellence within the often challenging realm of public architecture.

Today, as a design principal of the firm’s national practice and Design Director of the Yazdani Studio, Yazdani is a respected member of the international design community. His architecture continues to exhibit the delicate balance between art and function. Yazdani’s work has garnered numerous awards and international recognition, including a published portfolio and profiles featured in Architectural Record, The New York Times, among many others. His body of work includes the recently commissioned GSA Federal Courthouse in Toledo, Ohio; the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in Las Vegas; a biomedical laboratory for the Hauptman Woodward Research Institute; Student and Dining Commons at the University of California, Berkeley; and the widely lauded Santa Monica Public Safety Facility in California. Additionally Yazdani serves on numerous design juries, as a peer reviewer for the GSA, and a member of the GSA’s Architecture and Engineering Advisory Council.

His paintings and drawings are exhibited regularly throughout the U.S. and are part of the permanent collections of the Library of Congress and Museums of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco.
