Facility Optimization
Overview
Empowering clients with hard data to drive their strategic and tactical planning is the core goal of the services provided by facility optimization by Cannon Design. More than a conventional facility management package, our suite of services is a way to share building expertise with facility directors and build a long-term partnership.
Cannon Design utilizes a number of cutting-edge tools to collect data that helps our clients develop capital plans and budgets and manage real estate assets. Some clients choose to couple these services with Cannon Design’s traditional architectural, engineering, and construction administration services, forming a long-term partnership that covers facilities throughout their entire life cycle, from design and construction through operation, management, maintenance, and protection.

Comprehensive Facility Assessment
Cannon Design’s Comprehensive Facility Assessment process gives clients a building-by-building, room-by-room, system-by-system evaluation of their facilities. Our architects, engineers, cost estimators, and facility optimization professionals conduct detailed evaluations and compile the data they collect in a comprehensive, easy-to-use online database that directly complies with criteria required by governmental authorities and client protocol.
Our facility assessment web database is a proprietary software tool developed by Cannon Design using our expertise in building system components of all types. Our system is fully customizable to meet the specific needs of our building owners and managers. The system has flexible reporting capabilities that range from a broad system summary to detailed component analysis to creating a long or short range plan, integrating operations, life cycles and capital outlays.
Emergency Management
Our emergency management team has years of proven experience in managing emergency responses at all levels, from day to day incidents to serving in the emergency operations center for the World Trade Center attacks. Team members are seasoned emergency management planners, subject matter experts, grant writers, analysts, facilitators, and trainers who support clients in their effort to plan for, protect against, respond to, and recover from all manner of incidents and crises. We have firsthand knowledge and boots on the ground experience in what does and doesn’t work in emergency management. We deliver this knowledge to you.
Energy and Sustainability
Truly successful sustainable design projects require consistent input from all project stakeholders during design and construction.
Cannon Design’s energy team is a pioneer in this field, developing tools that empower clients and project teams to achieve their goals for high-performance structures, including thermal and visual comfort, energy efficiency, and optimal indoor air quality.
Commissioning
Commissioning is a core element of sustainable design practice. It ensures that sustainable design strategies and components are translated from contract documents into the built facility’s architectural fabric.
Our commissioning team comprehensively documents building requirements — owner objectives, intended building use, and systems performance goals — and systematically verifies these requirements are met throughout design, construction, acceptance, and occupancy.
Cost Estimating
Our cost estimating team strengthens our efforts thanks to its ability to perform cost segregation studies and its knowledge of 179D Tax Deductions. Our team evaluates your property assets and how best to manage them over the next 5, 10 and 15 years. We help accelerate tax deductions and create notable cost and energy savings.
