Description
Now under construction is the first of three new regional mental health facilities – phase one of a replacement program encompassing 2.1 million sf and 940 beds for state-of-the-art psychiatric care in North Carolina. The design, a collaboration with The Freelon Group, joins patient care units to a circulation spine that functions as a “patient activities mall” linked in turn to a support core, creating an outdoor courtyard for patients, visitors and staff. Together, the activities mall and courtyard function as the catalyst in establishing a normalizing environment for patient rehabilitation.
