Description
To accommodate growth, clarify wayfinding and upgrade the campus to better serve patients, visitors, and staff, Stony Brook University Hospital has undertaken a capital improvement program. A combination of 150,000 sf of renovation and 150,000 sf of new construction, the project consolidates and expands women and children’s services, triples the capacity of the emergency department, and renovates and expands surgical services. The cornerstone of the project, the creation of a new entryway, resolves conflict in the movement of people and materials, and improves access and circulation, security and control. In combination with modifications to campus circulation, this “gateway” improves the arrival experience establishing a striking and distinctive image for the hospital.
